How to track what you eat using the app

Keeping track of what you eat can help you reach your health goals. It helps you look back on your eating patterns—like how different foods make you feel. And you’ll start to notice where swapping certain foods or portion sizes makes a difference.

You can keep up this powerful habit by using your app. It now has new features that make it even easier.

Here’s what’s new:

We’ve added photo analysis and barcode scanning features. Use photo analysis to take or upload a photo of your meal; our tracker will identify the food items and portion sizes for you. Or scan a barcode to have the nutrition details filled in.

And don’t forget these other features:

  • Food database: Select foods from a database of more than 2 million foods. You can get a breakdown of calories and nutrients and typical serving sizes for each food you track.
  • Autocomplete feature: See suggestions as you type. If the right one appears before you finish typing, just tap it to save time.
  • Recently added foods: Find anything you recently tracked listed at the start of a new search. This makes it easier to add that food again.
  • Past and future meals: Add food as far back as a year in the past. You can also add foods up to two weeks in advance.
  • Food insights: Understand how eating habits affect your daily nutrition targets by setting a daily calorie target and tracking important nutrients like carbohydrates, fat, protein, sodium and potassium.
