8 non-food ways to reward yourself

Did you know taking a moment to celebrate your wins (whatever they may be) can actually help you reach your goal? It’s true. When you celebrate your wins, your brain releases dopamine. This feel-good hormone motivates you to repeat what you’re doing. Repetition helps you learn new things and, in the end, build new habits.

Of course we don’t want our celebrations to sabotage our efforts. If your celebrations include indulging in food, you may set yourself back. Instead, try celebrating with non-food rewards. The reward doesn’t need to be over-the-top. It just needs to be important to you.

We’re sharing some of our favorite ways to treat ourselves. Whatever you choose, enjoy it! You earned it!

  1. Get some new workout gear (e.g., water bottle, shorts, tank top).
  2. Sign up for a workout class you’ve been wanting to try.
  3. Have a mini spa night at home with face masks, a cup of tea and foot soaks, etc.
  4. Plan a day trip to check out a nearby restaurant, shop or event.
  5. Get tickets to a movie, show or concert.
  6. Spend an entire afternoon doing a hobby you enjoy, e.g., gardening, knitting, reading, etc.
  7. Have a game night with friends.
  8. Buy yourself flowers.
