  • Eligibility for GLP-1 medications depends on both program access and clinical criteria. 

    • Your insurance provider, employer or plan sponsor must offer access to a program that includes visits with a care provider to discuss GLP-1 prescriptions 
    • If your program includes the ability to meet with our care providers, you’ll schedule a visit and they’ll evaluate whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate for you 
  • The process for getting a GLP-1 prescription involves meeting with a care provider to determine whether medication is appropriate. 

    • You may schedule a visit with a Teladoc Health care provider or your regular primary care provider, depending on your program 
    • During the visit, the care provider reviews your medical history and medications 
    • If you meet clinical criteria, your care provider may recommend a weight loss medication and, together, you’ll decide if it’s right for you 
    • If prescribed, your care provider will explain how to use the medication, expected results, possible side effects and how to monitor treatment 


    After the prescription is submitted, additional steps may be required before the medication is filled. 

    • Filling the prescription can take several weeks and administrative follow-up may be needed for approval 
    • Insurance requirements may include prior authorization, program engagement requirements for coverage, and additional documentation, appeal letters or authorization requests if denied 
    • You will be notified if the medication is denied 
    • Your care provider may recommend an alternative medication if needed 
  • The cost of GLP-1 medications varies based on insurance coverage and individual plan benefits. 

    • Coverage does not always mean the medication is free 
    • Out-of-pocket costs may apply and are influenced by plan benefits, your deductible and other coverage factors 
    • If the medication is not covered, you may have the option to pay out of pocket and explore patient assistance programs that may be time-limited
