GLP-1 medications for weight loss can be costly—even if your insurance covers some of it. There may be a more affordable way to pay for your GLP-1 medication. Teladoc Health care providers can now send GLP-1 prescriptions for weight loss to pharmacies that offer discounted pricing, like LillyDirect and NovoCare.
Here’s what you need to know about it:
You cannot use your insurance and get reduced pricing. If you want to pay for your medication at a reduced price, you’re responsible for the cost.
What you pay does not count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.
It’s possible that you may end up paying more through self-pay over time than what you might pay through insurance. Consider what you’ll pay monthly through self-pay versus what you’ll pay before and after you reach your deductible through insurance.
You may be able to pay with your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
Your medication will be shipped directly to you. You won’t pick it up at your regular pharmacy.
Interested? Talk to your care provider about it during your next visit. If you decide to use the self-pay option, make sure they send your prescription to a participating pharmacy.
