How do I manage stress eating?

ask a coach

Ask a Coach: I have been under a lot of stress lately. As a result, I find myself reaching for snacks in the late afternoon and after dinner. Do you have any suggestions for how to stop this pattern?

It’s not uncommon for stress to lead to more snacking. The fact that you are aware this is happening is a very important first step. We can’t change the behaviors we don’t know we have! Great job being self-aware! One way to break this pattern is to replace the foods you tend to snack on with other, more satisfying foods. You may also want to interrupt your schedule by taking a walk or catching up with an old friend at the time you are likely to reach for a snack. Click here for more on stopping stress eating.
