How Teladoc Health is making virtual care more connected and personalized
In recent years, health and well-being programs have taken on added importance in employers’ benefit strategies. According to the Business Group on Health, 98% believe these programs have a key role to play.
Plan sponsors are asking: How can we more effectively manage chronic conditions in our population? It puts pressure on partners like Teladoc Health to innovate and elevate solutions to increase efficiency and reduce costs—helping plan sponsors get more out of their virtual care investment.
At Teladoc Health, we help people live healthier lives with access to high-quality care and support. With recent app enhancements, we’re helping employers get more out of their virtual care investment, specifically by improving engagement to support better chronic condition management.
How can we make every interaction more meaningful?
When our care providers meet with a patient, our Prism care delivery platform gives them a unified view of the patient. They’re aware of gaps in care, other programs the patient may be eligible for and more. This view empowers providers to deliver high-quality care and connect them to other resources—maximizing the value of that visit.
With our scale and breadth of services, people coming to Teladoc Health often engage with us for more than one thing. As an innovative healthcare partner, we needed our app experience to feel more connected.
With an enhanced and integrated experience, people see a snapshot of where they are on their health journey in one place:
They receive a recommended next best action based on all the services available to them (Figure 1) to guide them on what to do next and support better outcomes and maximize value.
Relevant health data (blood glucose, blood pressure, weight, food logging and activity) is also more prominently shown to help people more easily understand how they’re tracking to their goals.

How can behavioral science inform our engagement strategy?
Studies show the connection between engagement and improved clinical outcomes. Our teams are constantly evaluating ways to leverage tools, such as predictive modeling, to further personalize the experience and drive engagement.
In 2025, we emphasized gamification. This behavior science principle uses elements, such as rewards and streaks, to motivate people, drive engagement and add value.
With our recent enhancements, we guide people through setting SMART goals tied to meaningful clinical outcomes based on their health. This sets them up for a personalized, behavioral-science-driven experience:
- People receive new bite-sized tasks daily that align with their goals and previous actions (Figure 2).
- As tasks are completed, people build streaks and get feedback to encourage ongoing engagement.
- On the way to their goal, people are alerted to key milestones.
Figure 2. Gamification principles create self-competition that motivate members to complete tasks, build streaks and reach their ultimate goals.
How can we leverage the right data to drive personalization?
Data is vital for informing our machine learning models, as well as our health coaches and care providers, to tailor the experience. We already have an unmatched scale of data, but there was an opportunity to do more, and I want to highlight three areas of improvement.
- Deeper wearable integration: For years, we’ve incorporated wearables like Apple HealthKit and Google Fitbit. Now, we’re going deeper to bring this data to life. On the app, people using wearables see visualizations of their activity within the context of their SMART goals. With short-and long-term views, they can easily see trends in their behavior.
- Unlocking continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data: Maximizing CGMs requires expert support to help people turn that valuable data into actionable insights (Figure 3). At Teladoc Health, we’re doing that and seamlessly integrating with the industry’s leading CGM manufacturers.
- Next-generation connected devices: New devices will increase access and improve the experience. With expanded cellular carrier support, more people in rural areas can monitor their health without needing high-speed internet. Other enhancements include proactive coach outreach for out-of-range blood pressure readings, larger blood pressure cuff sizes and expanded body composition insights with our smart scale.

Engagement is critical for results. With our latest updates, we’re using behavioral science, predictive modeling and rich data to create personalized experiences that support better clinical outcomes. For plan sponsors, these innovative enhancements support chronic condition management and will help them maximize the value of their investment in virtual care.
