Ask a Coach: When should I check my blood sugar, and what are my targets?

Checking blood sugar is so helpful to understanding your diabetes!

The best time to check blood sugar is often in the morning before eating or drinking, known as fasting blood sugar. The typical target for fasting and pre-meal levels is 80–130 mg/dL.

Checking your blood sugar 1-2 hours after the start of the meal helps you see how your body is reacting to the food you’re eating. The suggested range for this time is 80-180 mg/dL, according to guidelines from the American Diabetes Association.

Here’s more information on blood sugar checks you might find useful. Talk to your doctor about your specific blood sugar targets. And don’t forget, you can always message a coach on the app or schedule a coaching session for advice that is just for you.
