The Teladoc Health WM2000 weight scale’s body composition mode helps you understand changes beyond just your weight. Body composition is what your body is made of. It includes fat, muscle, water and bone. This matters because two people can weigh the same but have very different bodies and health.
When you’re on a weight loss journey, your weight doesn’t tell the whole story. You can lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. If that happens, your weight may stay the same, even though your body is getting healthier. That’s why it’s great to see if your muscle mass percentage is going up or your body fat percentage is going down.
Body composition mode measures your muscle mass and body fat percentages and shows whether they fall within a healthy range. These ranges are based on your age and sex at birth. When your numbers are outside the recommended range in muscle mass or body fat, you have more insight on areas for focus. For example, if your muscle mass percentage falls outside the recommended range, you may want to add or alter exercise and light weight training. Consider contacting one of our coaches to help tailor your plan.
Tracking body composition helps you see real changes in your body, like losing fat instead of just water weight, so you can adjust your food and movement to get better results. Watching your muscle mass helps you protect your strength, since losing muscle can slow your metabolism and make health goals harder to reach.
In the app, you can choose to allow body composition measurements (muscle mass and body fat percentages) for a holistic picture of your weight loss trends. Find the body composition opt-in in the Weight Management onboarding program or Settings page. You can change this mode online and in the app at any time.
Body composition mode uses BIA, or bioelectrical impedance analysis. BIA is a simple and safe way to learn more about what your body is made of. Many modern scales use BIA technology to measure your body composition. Learn more about BIA here.
Knowing your body composition can help you on your health and weight loss journey because:
Note: Body composition mode uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). BIA is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or have an implanted electronic device, like a pacemaker.
